It deals with the planning, design, construction and operation of physical facilities essential to modern life and community living. These include urban development projects, housing and associated structures for residential and industrial uses, land water and air transportaton facilities, water supply and waste water treatment and disposal systems, reservoirs and flood control dams, and many others. the practice of Civil Engineering is devoted to the improvement of the environment, making human activities productive, safe and enjoyable, and providing an esthetically pleasing surrounding.
The scope of studies in Civil Engineering is so wide that each of its special areas can be developed as seperate programmes of study such as structural, water resources, environmental, geotechnical, transportation and structure engineering.
